Yesterday’s Farming 2021 Cancelled

The Committee of the SSAPC held a meeting via Zoom on Monday 15th March to discuss the feasibility of holding Yesterday’s Farming 2021. After a thorough discussion, it was sadly but unanimously agreed that the event would be cancelled.

Whilst it is clear that the nationwide rollout of the vaccination programme is proceeding at an astonishing rate and many people have had their first jab, there is still a long way to go before all the over 16’s are fully protected.  The roadmap out of lockdown gives hope to life slowly returning to normal after June 21st if the Government’s milestones are met, but uncertainly still exists for organisers of events after this date.

For Yesterday’s Farming 2021 to take place the club would need to commit to unrecoverable costs very soon and we already stand to suffer the loss of deposits for some services that were kindly rolled over from last year. The Club does have reserves, but it would be irresponsible of the committee to go ahead without considering the ongoing risks.

We also considered the reputation of the SSAPC and “Yesterday’s Farming” within the area and although we were in no way put under pressure to cancel by our landowners, we still felt we have a responsibility not only to the Baker family but also to the local community to not put them at risk with an influx of people into their area. The same goes for the Club members, our exhibitors and visitors to the show.

We are sure that this regretful decision will come as a disappointment to many of you and we can assure you all that this decision was not taken lightly. We can only hope at this time that by 2022 there will be nothing to prevent our much loved events taking place in their normal format.

The President and Committee thank you for your support and we very much look forward to recommencing monthly meetings when it is safe to do so. Yesterday’s Farming 2022 will take place at Dillington House, Ilminster on August 20th & 21st.
